Plans for the next update

So, I have one character drawn so far for the next update, but that is not where I'm planning to stop. Assuming I can manage to keep up my slowly increasing drawing pace, I will be able to introduce two other characters. One of which will be available as a party member.

Also in the works; new spells, a spell focus system, and the Dungeon opening up for free exploration. You might have noticed when playing the demo that there was no MP. That is going to stay as it is. Obviously though, without a limit on magic, you would basically be able to start every battle fresh and the game would lose a good bit of challenge.

So, in order to combat that, my current idea is to have characters build up exhaustion gradually as they fight, which will have a negative impact on their performance in battle once it starts adding up to a higher amount. The reason I am going with this is that a straight up magic meter never felt quite right to me for magic users. It's an inflexible hard cap on how much power they can use before suddenly becoming absolutely useless.

On the other hand, a system that adds penalties gradually has more of a soft cap. You'll never have to worry about having 1 arbitrary point of magic too little to cast the spell you desperately need to cast. You can't just cast any spell you want without a care though; a tired party member will act slower, and their spells will lose power as they struggle to maintain their focus. It will be up to you to decide how tired is too tired.

  1. I like the penalty buildup mechanic, especially if there's a way you can make spells fatigue you less the higher level you achieve or (even better in my opinion) the more you cast them. It always seemed logical to me that you more you do something the better you get at it and the easier it becomes and I've always appreciated games that have a mechanic that takes that into account.
